11 Nov Requiem for Mumma
It is with great sadness that I inform you that my Mum passed away 1 week ago today.
Luckily for me, Mum always supported my music and my career. Not everyone is so fortunate – we hear many stories of parents steering their children away from the arts for various reasons. Never once did Mum discourage me – she loved the arts herself, be it music, theatre, ballet and of course painting & sculpture – she was a voluntary guide at the Art Gallery of Western Australia for many years and did some artwork in her younger days. Her parents were also artistic – Grandpa wrote radio plays for the ABC and Grandma was a singer. As such, she was more than happy for me to pursue a life in music composition and heard many of my tunes. She was there for my graduation recital and flew all the way to Miami, USA to attend my Masters graduation, back in 2002. I only wish I had completed a few more pieces before she passed.
Thank you Mum for all your love and support over the years – miss you very much.
